Courses

disclaimer - please read

As a predominantly volunteer-based organization, the Nova Scotia Physiotherapy Association (NSPA) does not have the resources to review the content of all courses posted through our website. NSPA members are reminded that provision of evidence-based care to patients is of utmost importance. The following courses may contain material outside physiotherapists' scope of practice. Please consult the course syllabus and NS College of Physiotherapists' regulations when considering using material learned during these courses. Knowledge and skills obtained outside PT scope of practice cannot be applied to patient care; members may wish to consider this when choosing a course.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have a concern you feel we should address in relation to a course we’ve posted. We will do our best to review course postings that a few concerned members have reached out to us about.

The NSCP says Physiotherapy Scope DOES NOT include:

  • Nutritional and medication counselling (e.g. vaccination, vitamins, supplements)
  • Mental health, spiritual and psychological counselling
  • Acupuncture for conditions outside the neuromuscular and cardiorespiratory realm (e.g. weight loss, infertility and addictions such as smoking cessation)
  • Visceral manipulation
  • Craniosacral therapy
  • Complementary and Alternative***Therapies (e.g. energy healing, self-affirmation, reflexology, holistic services)
  • Treatment of urogenital conditions that are not neuromusculoskeletal in nature
  • Curing diseases and syndromes (e.g. autism, verbal apraxia, attention deficit disorder, attention   deficit hyperactivity disorder, asthma, infertility, Asperger syndrome)

As an aid to critical evaluation of courses teaching new and emerging practices, the Nova Scotia College of Physiotherapists provides a useful tool: https://nsphysio.com/for-members/standards-and-guidelines/practice-guidelines/evidence-based-scope-of-practice-guideline
